Common questions

How do I cover something?

Tap Photo or screenshot and pick one. Faces and private text are covered for you. Tap anything with a dashed outline to cover it, and tap a cover to take it off. To cover something the app didn't find, switch to Draw and drag your finger over it. Then tap Save or Share.

What does it look for?

Faces, whole people, phone numbers, email addresses, card numbers, long numbers like account or ID numbers, @usernames, links and street addresses. Dates, times and prices are left alone. Every other line of text is outlined so you can cover it with one tap.

Why can't I blur text?

Because blurred or pixelated text can often be read back by software. A solid cover replaces the pixels, so nothing is left to recover. Faces and people can be blurred if you prefer the look, but a blur can sometimes be reversed too, so solid is the default.

Is my video fully covered?

ShushShot covers every face it finds in every frame, and keeps a cover in place for a few frames either side so a quick turn doesn't show a face. A face that is very small, turned away or in shadow can be missed, so always watch the result before you share it. Text in videos isn't covered; use a photo for that.

Saving says I need to allow access

Open the iPhone Settings app → ShushShot → Photos → choose Add Photos Only. ShushShot only adds photos; it never reads your library. To pick a photo it uses Apple's picker, which needs no permission.

Does the original photo change?

No. ShushShot saves a new copy. The original stays in your library as it was.

Does it upload my photos?

No. Finding and covering happen on your iPhone, with Apple's own on-device tools. It works in airplane mode. See the privacy policy.

Which iPhones does it work on?

Any iPhone with iOS 17 or later.
